While I enjoy the werewolf genre, I'm obviously partial to the vampire world. Wincing at the fact that the juvenile Twilight series was the catalyst that re-ignited human passion for all things vampire, like many, I relish the ripple affect that it created. Hollywood vampires now come in all shapes and sizes. But, more importantly, previously ignored authors are now getting a look from a worldwide audience hungry to taste the terror of vampires in a variety of formats.
Which leads to my conundrum. An admitted fan of vampire lore, I was driven to present an alternative platform for the attractive aspects while sidestepping much of the fantasy/magic/paranormal foundation vampire stories are built on. Yet, how to attract a vampire fan to enjoy a vampire novel that's not about vampires?
Or... is it?
JUICE weaves a delicious tale of the everyday guy in a small town dealing with situations that include mysterious and eyebrow raising issues - interacting with peculiar people who exude unusual characteristics - while being a total non-believer himself. Our unlikely hero finds it easier to believe in aliens than to admit there might things that go bump in the night.
And when he learns the truth - the conflict between accepting what's REALLY out there and rewriting the history of humanity - may red-line his O-shitometer.
Vampires don't exist. Yet the folklore and legends of vampire activity are so ingrained into daily life, humans naturally associate certain topics with vampire reality. Call it an oxymoron - or an insatiable desire to make the vampire myths come to life.
And now, the search is on for vampire fans willing to venture off the tired, worn out path of typical vampire tales. To find those willing to entertain the possibility of "plausible" alternatives - to enjoy the appealing aspects of the vampire genre - in a story that's not about vampires.
Or... is it?
